To make sure everyone stays safe through the ongoing pandemic, our winter cultural celebrations will once again be held online, just like last year’s successful events. Our first one – the 6th Annual King Cake Party – will be split into two virtual events on Sunday, January 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. As always, the party will be held in French to preserve APS’s dedication to French language immersion, but has been designed so that participants of any level of familiarity with the language – including none – will feel comfortable.
The focus of the party will be on king cakes, an important part of the traditional French Epiphanie celebration. All participants will get their own mini-king cake, giving them a chance for a year’s worth of good luck if they find a charm inside! Each event is limited to 10 families to ensure plenty of one-on-one time, and all activities have been geared to keep APS’s youngest students engaged for a full hour.
Schedule:
All materials can be picked up the day of the event (Sunday, Jan. 23) between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online up until noon on Friday, Jan. 21.
3-4 p.m.: Part 1 – Virtual cooking class
This event is geared toward older children and adults, as it involves working in the kitchen. Participants will need access to an oven and a small prep area where they have room to spread out and perform all the steps of building a king cake.
• Admission to party and King Cake Building Kit (includes pre-measured ingredients good for making up to four king cakes): $30
• Admission to party only (good for entire two-hour event): $10
• Pre-made king cake: $8
4-5 p.m.: Part 2 – Craft, story time and king cake tasting
This event is geared toward younger children and families. Participants will need access to a table or open floor space where they have room to spread out and perform all the steps of building cardboard crowns.
• Admission to party and King Cake Fun Kit (includes a set of crown-building supplies and two king cakes)
• Admission to party only (good for entire two-hour event): $10
• Additional king cake: $8
